Students will encounter the values of integrity, honesty, and the pursuit of excellence as they read the selected portions of Walden. Thoreau is exploring his life, wondering what the purpose of life is, and trying to define a well lived life. Personal integrity and honesty are two key virtues he settles on in his investigation. The pursuit of excellence, in addition to the above, ties in with the concept of virtue ethics, as defined and discussed below.
